I built my Tesla Model Y camper kit last year after seeing Jimmy's build on YouTube and I have been camping all around the country with it over the last year.
I'm heading out in a few days for a two-week adventure of California's famed highway 395 to explore the beautiful eastern Sierras.
I'll be playing it day by day but hope to hit up death valley national Park, a ton of natural hot springs asking the route, the Cerro Gordo mine, Coyote flats, Levitt lake, the ancient bristlecone pines, and more.
I'd love to hear recommendations if anybody has any. I'm planning to explore as much as possible below the Tahoe-Reno area over roughly two weeks.
On my first day, I ventured up to the old Cerro Gordo Mine. It's now privately owned and has a YouTube channel documenting the work they're doing. The 7 mile dirt road leading up from the valley floor to the ridge was well graded with beautiful views of the lake and Sierras along the way.
I explored the town for a few hours then continued on up to the top of the ridge to find camp for the night on the adjacent BLM land. I leveled the car on a few rocks and took a short hike up to the top of Cerro Gordo Peak.
The exposure of the trail tested my nerves but everything worked perfectly and kept me safe. I woke to a spectacular sunrise over Death Valley, had some oatmeal and coffee and headed down the hill.
